Birchwood Core Values

Authenticity - We value "being real." We are real people with real joys and defeats. We desire to authentically open ourselves up to God and to other people. We choose not to hide behind religious cliché or pretense. But instead, we will model the pattern of Jesus who made Himself both available and vulnerable to people because of His love for them.

Truth - We value the Bible, God's Word to us. In it we find truth that is relevant and applicable for every-day life. The main message of the Bible speaks of a person, Jesus, who is the embodiment and personification of truth. We believe that the clear teaching and application of God's Word transforms lives.

Worship - We value worship as a lifestyle. Jesus said the Father is actively seeking true worshipers. He described these true worshipers as those who worship in spirit and in truth. Lifestyle worship flows from a relationship with Christ that is characterized by surrender and intimacy. These characteristics are fostered by communication with the Father through open and honest prayer, praise and relection.

Prayer - We value communion with the Father. The Christian life is a relationship. God has given us the gift of prayer so that we can know Him more intimately, enjoy His presence and express our hearts and needs to Him.

Community - We value relationships. God originally created us to live in community with him and each other. Sin not only destroys relationship with God but also isolates us from true community with other people. In our salvation God brings us into community with himself, but also places us in the community context of his body the church.

Outward Focus - We value reaching out to our communities. At the heart of God's purpose for His church is the Great Commission which compels us to reach lost people with the message of God's love. We seek to build relational bridges with non-believers in order to bring them into life-changing relationships with Jesus.
Spiritual Formation - We value transformation. The Christian life is to be one of constant change as we are conformed more to the image and character of Christ. This is the essence of true discipleship.

Serving Through Shared Ministry - We value the spiritual gifts that God has given each believer. He has created us with different gifts for different ministries for the building up of teh faith community. We believe that every member of God's household is a minister. We desire to encourage every person to discover and use the spiritual gifts that God has given.

Building Families - We value families. We desire to help families grow together by strengthening marriages, equipping parents and providing opportunities for all ages of children and adults to grow spiritually. We also believe in providing settings where whole families can minister and be ministered to.

Restoration - We value wholeness. The church is to be a place where hurting and broken people can find acceptance and healing. We are not to condemn, but to join God in the ministry of reconciliation. We follow the model of Jesus who always lovingly spoke the truth and sought to bring wholeness to broken people.

Excellence - We value giving our best. We serve a creative God who deserves and demands that we serve Him wholeheartedly. We strive to do everything we do in our ministries and programs with creative excellence and in an attitude of worship to our Lord.

Joy in the Journey - We value the Christian life. We look forward to heaven, but will enjoy God while we live on earth. We believe that God is most glorified when we are most satisfied in Him. We seek to experience in our daily lives Jesus' promise of a life that is abundant and full of joy.
